An extensive collection of 105 political and social caricatures selected from prints gifted to Trinity College in 1996. These works capture London's golden age of caricature, featuring satirical portrayals of celebrated Irish figures including Edmund Burke, Richard Brinsley Sheridan, the Duke of Wellington, John Philpot Curran, Thomas Moore, Viscount Castlereagh and Lady Caroline Lamb. The collection also documents contemporary social commentary on Irish labourers who migrated to London, whose presence sparked considerable local resentment. Many prints were subsequently published in Dublin, where witty adaptations and creative reinterpretations flourished alongside the inevitable plagiarism of the era. Together, these works offer a fascinating window into Anglo-Irish relations and popular attitudes during a pivotal period in British satirical art.
